InterContinental Hotels Group’s (IHG) Crowne Plaza brand says it has doubled the size of its estate since 2000 and continues to expand further with more projects and developments in the pipeline.
Back in 2000 there were 149 Crowne Plaza hotels around the globe and 43 new signed hotel agreements in development. By the end of March this year that figure has jumped to 308 hotels in operation and 118 in the pipeline - 426 in total which gives the brand 122% growth.
IHG announced another property this week with the signing of the Crowne Plaza Doha, Qatar. More Crowne Plaza projects in the pipeline include; Liverpool John Lennon Airport and the 415-guest room Crowne Plaza Belgrade, to benefit from a €30m ($47m) refurbishment.
Crowne Plaza hotels already opened this year include; Tel Aviv City Centre, Israel which opened on the 3 June; Minsk, Belarus, May; Athens City Centre, April; Milan City, March and the 316-room Crowne Plaza Dubai Festival City, also opening in March.
“Crowne Plaza has been extremely successful globally,” said IHG president EMEA Kirk Kinsell. “The brand has built a very strong reputation in the lucrative business traveller market as a comfortable, contemporary and productive place to stay.”
